The 3 Benefits of In-House Powder Coating

When Valley Design started in 1986, the products and services we provided looked a little different. We did not yet manufacture table bases or their accessories, and we did not have the equipment and expertise to provide the wide array of manufactured products and services we do today. However, one service started it all and has withstood the test of time – powder coating.

While it is not uncommon for manufacturers to outsource the powder coating of their products, it has become increasingly more common to bring powder coating in-house instead. This was certainly not the case back in 1986. When Valley Design first opened its doors, there were less than 20 powder coating companies in the state of Minnesota. With our humble beginnings, we were determined to take advantage of this opportunity in the market, and quickly established ourselves as a quality powder coating provider to other metal fabrication companies.

Though we have grown and expanded to our own metal fabrication since then, we’ve held tight to our powder coating capabilities due to the three main benefits of in-house powder coating that we have and continue to experience today.

  1. Faster Turnaround

The rate at which any project can be completed plays an essential role in the satisfaction of our customers. After all, no one wants to wait longer than expected. With in-house powder coating, we do not have to account for time it takes to outsource our products to a third-party business and then wait for them to be returned. This allows us to increase our efficiency and have faster turnaround times, helping our clients finalize their products as efficiently as possible without the risk of lowering the quality of the completed product.

  1. Cost Savings

There are also economic advantages to offering in-house powder coating. Just as the transportation of our products to a third-party business takes time, it can be costly. After adding in the cost of materials, labor, transportation, and business fees, it can quickly become a lot of additional costs. By doing all of our own powder coating of the products we manufacture, we are able to eliminate these extra costs, effectively preventing our clients from having to bear this additional expense.

  1. Quality Control

Perhaps most importantly, offering in-house powder coating services allows us to have more control over the process and ensure that all finishes meet our quality standards. When working with a third party, it can be difficult to guarantee your specifications and the quality of the finishes meet the standards your business has for its products. At Valley Design, we recognize the importance of high-quality products and services and continually work to provide our clients with the best we have to offer.

Today, we are able to capitalize all three of the main benefits that come with providing powder coating in-house, but most of all, our clients reap these benefits with us. With faster turnaround times, lower manufacturing costs, and a higher standard of quality control, our clients can be confident that we are the smart partner for all of their products.
