More Than Just a Job: Student Experiences at Valley Design

Looking for a summer job that offers flexibility, valuable experience, and a supportive team environment? These are some of the benefits to working at Valley Design in the summer. But, don’t just take our word for it—hear from the students who experienced it first-hand. From assembling high-quality products to gaining real-world engineering experience, these student workers have found their time at Valley Design to be well worth it.

Flexibility for Your Schedule

For many students, summer means a balance of work, sports, vacations, and time with family and friends. That’s why Valley Design offers a flexible work schedule. Whether you’re looking for part-time or full-time hours, there’s something that fits with your summer plans.

Annika M., a senior at Fillmore Central High School who has spent two summers at Valley Design, found the flexibility and welcoming environment to be a major perk. “They are super flexible with your schedule,” she said. “It’s great for fitting in with vacations and other activities.”

For Kyla H., a junior from Fillmore Central, the willingness to work around our staff’s commitments is what drew her to Valley. “I heard from other student employees that it’s a great summer job and super flexible,” she shared. “The schedule worked really well with my summer sports.”

A Supportive Work Environment

One of the standout aspects of Valley Design is the positive, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re in assembly or working in an office role, you’ll find a team that is eager to support you and make your experience enjoyable.

Kyla was pleasantly surprised by the support she received from colleagues. “All of the full-time employees are very supportive. Everyone was always willing to answer questions and offer assistance. This helped me to get the hang of things and learn faster.”

Valuable, Real-World Skills

Anna K., a mechanical engineering student at Iowa State University, found her two summers at Valley Design to be very helpful for her future career. “I learned how to use software such as Autodesk Inventor, and I got a better understanding of how engineering fits into a company,” Anna explained. “It was really rewarding to see things I worked on be used in assembly.”

Though our facility is a great place for future engineers and manufacturers to learn and gain experience, the skills our summer staff develop can benefit those looking to go into any professional field.

After his three summers at Valley Design working in assembly and packaging, experiencing the office work, and operating a robotic welder throughout, Drew S. saw firsthand “how everything works together smoothly and how it comes together for the finished product.” His time working in these different departments, Drew developed a new understanding of how a business operates and how everyone plays a key role in the success of our operations.

Annika also gained a new appreciation for time management and having a strong work ethic. “You can look around and see how much happens. How many people work hard to get products shipped on time. It is amazing!” she shared.

Work Hard, Get Rewarded

Like any job, it takes hard work and challenges you to overcome obstacles. But, there are plenty of rewards to make the hard work feel worthwhile. For Drew, it was about seeing the direct impact of his contributions. “The most rewarding part was knowing how much you’ve done, whether it’s packaging boxes or other tasks,” he said.

Kyla shared similar feelings. “The most rewarding part for me was gaining confidence and becoming more independent as I got more experience throughout the summer,” she said. With supportive coworkers and opportunities to learn, you’ll find that your efforts at Valley Design are always appreciated.
