Innovation isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s the result of decades of learning, building, and refining. Every new product we create builds on the ideas from its predecessors. By drawing on our history, we’re able to design solutions that not only meet today’s needs but also anticipate tomorrow’s.
The Foundation of the Fountain Series

One of the best examples of this legacy is our Fountain Series. Introduced in 1998, the Fountain Series was named after our hometown of Fountain, MN. It was the first base series to offer extended options such as different column and mainbar size and profile within one series.
The impact of the Fountain Series set a new standard for Valley Design. It delivered greater flexibility, more options, and an increased confidence in our product mix.
Inspiring Future Innovation
The retirement of the Fountain Series in 2017 was not the end of its story. In fact, it greatly influenced several key product lines. The concept of including different mainbar designs, column sizes and options can be seen in the ErgoRound and ErgoSquared Series.
Most recently, the Escalate Series features a solid 1 ½” x3” rectangular mainbar, very similar to that of the Fountain Series. Combining aluminum and steel components into one base design can be found in the Focus Series. As well as the idea of “sharing” mainbars between fixed and adjustable height offerings can be seen in the variety of adjustable height bases, such as the Counterbalance offering.
Each of these newer product lines carries forward valued traits of the Fountain Series, while introducing new features to fulfill the changing needs of modern environments.
Continuing the Legacy
The retirement of the Fountain Series made way for new base designs that better meet the needs of the evolving industry. Although retired, the Fountain Series can definitely be credited for influencing other bases designed since, reminding us that progress is built one design at a time, and that the best way to look forward is to never forget where we’ve been.
At Valley Design, we’re proud of our history, the products we make today, and the innovative table bases to come.
